The bed alcove of this room, which is panelled in white and gold, is fenced off with a carved and gilded balustrade. The bed canopy, the hangings and the upholstery, in ribbed satin woven with gold and velvet with gold embroidery, are blue – the King’s favourite colour. There is also a blue glass globe night-light on a richly carved and gilded stand. The paintings over the doors show views of the Palace of Versailles and festivities at the court of Louis XV.
